The 18U girls traveled south of the border to compete in the VolleyFX Winter Challenge in Rochester on February 28 and March 1 and brought home silver from the top bracket of competition.

Pool play provided the girls with the opportunity to avenge earlier season losses to VolleyFX and Paradigm at a January tournament in Buffalo.  With bouts of stomach flu and a couple of injuries threatening to dampen their spirits, they bonded together in a selfless display of teamwork representing their best outing of the year.

The final match was an all-Canadian affair, pitting the Rapids against Ontario’s Number 1 ranked Ottawa Maverick Mustangs.  It was a hard fought three set battle that eventually favoured the Mavericks 25-22, 13-25 and 11-15.

The next competition for the 18U girls will take place at Brock University on March 28 and 29 when they compete in the Bugarski Cup – Grand Prix.  This tournament will host the top 16 teams in Ontario and promises to heat up the battle leading into Provincials.  Make sure you take time to come out and cheer on your team, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to see top level volleyball so close to home.
